Flight

This week we will be exploring things that fly in the air, such as hot air balloons, planes, rockets, and kites. On Wednesday, two of the classes will be at the Crossroads Park working in the garden and flying some mini gliders.

Monday: Hot Air Balloons

Pirate week fun!

The kids have been so busy this week hiding and hunting for treasure!  They love the golden nuggets and flashy necklaces hiding about the school.  This has even carried on outside!  They love playing hide the treasure outside.  We have drawn treasure maps, made parrots and ships and even wrote pirate stories. 

The older class wrote their own pirate stories and came up with their own titles such as...The Pirate got Stung by a Bee, The Princess Pirate, The Puppy and the Pirate, Heart Pirate, The Pirate and the Spider, Pikachu Pirate, The Princess and the Pirate, The Pirate and Blue, Pirates Don't Take Care of Otters and more. These kids are great storytellers and the illustrations, AMAZING! I was really impressed how much I wrote when the kids dictated the story.  Before class ended, I read all the pirate stories and the kids were rolling on the floor with laughter!  It was so hard to get them to the classroom because they were all so busy in the back playing in small groups.  One group was looking through collected treasure, another playing pets in our pretend box boat, and two more groups playing vet and house!  It is great observing the children play together.  I hear Ms. Lindsay's class wrote a class pirate story.  Tomorrow, the older class will get to hear it.  Storytelling is very popular in our school. 

Outdoor class at Crossroads Park

Another well spent day at Crossroads Park! The weather was perfect, we had cloudy and muggy weather in the early morning, chilly and sprinkles in the late morning and full sun in the early afternoon. I love Washington weather. The kiddos played golf today...more like discovery golf. It was so cute to see them so interested in the sport. Big thanks to Par 3 golfcourse for letting us golf each time we visit.

We collected pine cones and made little characters using pom-poms and wiggle eyes. The children watered our garden, pulled weeds, rolled down hills, played baseball and so much more.  Snack and lunch time always amazes me with these kiddos.  They sit so nicely and for at least 20 minutes eating with their friends. 

One student noticed a tree had white all over the trunk. I explained to all the children about tree sap and how it's comparable to blood. Of course, I explained in  many different words. LOL The cutest thing said by a 3 year old was...."Ms. Salouma why is the tree bleeding?" LOL LOL too cute. I explained once again what sap is. We even talked about eating maple syrup. :)

We never have enough time to do all the things listed for the outdoor class.  Fun times at Crossroads Park!

Outdoor classtime at Marymoor and Crossroads

We have had such a wonderful time at the last two park trips.  The kids just love running about chasing butterflies, bunnies and squirrels.  At Crossroads Park, we took care of our garden, played golf, went on a nature scavenger hunt, decorated rocks and ate fresh snap peas.  We also visited Marymoor Park!  What a great space to run and run and run!  The kiddos watered the plants, ate raspberries, carrots, and lettuce!  I took them on a walk around the community garden to show them how the vegetables look before they are picked.  We smelled garlic blooms (beautiful), felt the leaves of radishes, observed nasturnums, and so much more.  There were quite a few plants I couldn't identify.  We played volleyball, soccer and even hopped around in sacks.  Before leaving, we took the bird trail hoping to see birds, but we only saw a few.  The parks are a great way to take learning outdoors.
